Body Worked back and forth on circular needle as one flat piece. There is one selvedge stitch at either end included in the total stitch count – use the Chain Selvedge (RS: slip first st knitwise, knit last st. WS: slip first st purlwise, purl last st). This gives a neat edge, and makes it easier to count rows when picking up stitches or seaming. With 5.0 mm (US 8) 36" circular needle, cast on 163 (179, 195, 211, 227, 243) sts. Row 1 (WS): First stitch will be slipped in subsequent rows, but work the st in the initial row), knit 27 (35, 35, 43, 43, 51) front sts, place side marker, knit 109 (109, 125, 125, 141, 141) back and underarm sts, place side marker, knit 27 (35, 35, 43, 43, 51) front sts. Place 11 (19, 19, 27, 27, 35) shoulder sts on stitch holder or scrap yarn. BO 29 (29, 29, 29, 29, 29) back neck sts. Place 11 (19, 19, 27, 27, 35) shoulder sts on stitch holder or scrap yarn. Right Front:: Slip the stitches from stitch holder or scrap yarn onto needle beg on WS, continue in pattern for 25 (25, 25, 35, 35, 35) rows. Next row: (RS facing) place first 16 sts on stitch holder or scrap yarn for neck – there are 11 (19, 19, 27, 27, 35) sts left on the needle. Note: Be sure to keep this number of sts on the needle at all times through the pattern changes by utilizing the increases and decreases of 3 sts at a time – as shown at the beginning and end of the rows on the chart. At times there will need to be increases at both ends, then decreases at both ends, instead of the increase-at-one-end-decrease-at-the-other form the pattern has taken thus far. Work 16 (16, 16, 16, 16, 16) rows on these stitches for a total of 42 (42, 42, 52, 52, 52) rows worked. Place these stitches on a stitch holder or scrap yarn for 3-needle BO later. Left Front: Also pick up sts on WS and continue in pattern, for 26 (26, 26, 36, 36, 36) rows. Next row: (WS facing) Place 16 sts on stitch holder or scrap yarn for neck, and continue in pattern. Work 17 (17, 17, 17, 17, 17) rows on these stitches for a total of 42 (42, 42, 52, 52, 52) rows worked. Place these stitches on a stitch holder or scrap yarn for 3-needle BO later. Sleeves: Each of 2 sleeves is worked back and forth on circular needle as one flat piece. There is one selvedge stitch at either end included in the total stitch count – use the Chain Selvedge (RS: slip first st knitwise, knit last st. WS: slip first st purlwise, purl last st). This gives a neat edge, and makes it easier to count rows when picking up stitches or seaming. With 5.0 mm (US 8) 36" circular needle, cast on 83 (83, 83, 99, 99, 99) sts. Knit 4 rows garter stitch (K every row). Begin peacock plume chart pattern at row 3, and work to row 32 of chart. P one row, then BO loosely on next RS row (piece will measure approx. 7" in length when slightly stretched). Place markers on either side of sleeve 3.25 (2.5, 3.25, 2.5, 3.25, 2.5)" from top edge. Finishing: Weave in all ends. Wash pieces by hand in cool water with a gentle soap like Eucalan or Woolite. Gently spin dry in washing machine to remove excess moisture. Wet block pieces to measurements on diagram. Join shoulders with 3-needle BO as follows: Slip one set of back shoulder sts on needle. Slip matching front shoulder sts on second needle. Hold with right sides facing and BO with third needle. Sew sleeve seams to markers. Set sleeves into armholes, matching open tops of sleeve seam to 29 (21, 29, 29, 21, 29, 21) bound off stitches at body underarms, and matching top edges of sleeves to body's vertical armholes. Front Bands: Worked back and forth on circular needle as flat pieces. On Left Front, with 4.5 mm (US 7) 36" circular needle and RS facing, pick up and knit 50 (50, 50, 58, 58, 58) stitches. Turn.
