LACEWING SHAWL

by Shui Kuen Kozinski

Cathedral: Sun seeps through stained windows.
In green valley, fluttering in air, translucent:
Delicate, ephemeral - Lacewing.

The Lacewing Shawl is a top-down, triangular shaped shawl in two identical sections, knit in a combination of coin lace and long-ladder patterns, making it feather light and silky soft. Stiches are dropped on every right side row.

The following is a description of the long-ladder pattern by Mary Thomas: "A stitch, when dropped, will leave an open ladder space about three times the normal width of the stitch, and in closely spaced, long ladder patterns will add considerably to the width of the fabric." [1]

To enhance the fabric structure, the stitch before and after the drop stitch, is knitted through the back loop. [2]
