Wrap yourself or a loved one in this elegant, yet easy to wear shawl. It is worked from the neck down and has a graceful drape and comforting warmth.

Experience:
Intermediate

Size:
28" long by 104" lower circumference (approx.)

Materials:
- 7 balls of elann.com Peruvian Quechua.
- 5.5mm (US 9) and 8.0mm (US 11) circular needles (32" length), or size needed to obtain gauge.
- Stitch marker

Gauge:
11 sts and 14 rows = 4" over blocked body pattern
The designer notes that it is easy to lengthen or shorten this garment if desired by working more repeats of the chart pattern before working the border chart. Yarn requirements will change if you choose to lengthen or shorten the shawl.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Using larger needles and 2 strands of yarn, cast on 10 stitches very loosely keeping them at least 1" apart. Cut 1 strand of yarn leaving a 12" end.

Switch to smaller needles and one strand of yarn.
Row 1 : K1, *yo, K1*, rep between **s across. (19 sts)
Row 2 and all even rows : Knit.
Row 3 : K1, *yo, K1*, rep between **s across. (37 sts)
Row 5 : Knit.
Row 7 : K2, *yo, K1*, rep between **s across. (72 sts)

Continue following written instructions below, or yoke chart for rows 9-39.
Row 9 : K2, *K5, yo, SSK, K1*, rep between **s 7 more times, K6.
Row 10 and all even rows : Knit.
Row 11 : K2, *K3, K2tog, yo, K1, yo, SSK*, rep between **s 7 more times, K6.
Row 13 : Rep row 9.
Row 15 : K2, *yo, K1*, rep between **s across. (142 sts)
Row 17 : Knit.
Row 19 : K2, *K5, yo, SSK, K1*, rep between **s 16 more times, K4.
Row 21 : K2, *K3, K2tog, yo, K1, yo, SSK*, rep between **s 16 more times, K4.
Row 23 : Rep row 19.
Row 25 : K2, *K1, yo, SSK, K5*, rep between **s 16 more times, K4.
Row 27 : K1, *K2tog, yo, K1, yo, SSK, K3*, rep between **s 16 more times, K5.
Row 29 : Rep row 25.
Rows 31-35 : Rep rows 19-23.
Row 37 : Knit.
Row 39 : K3, *yo K1* rep between **s across to last 3 sts, yo, K3. (279 sts)

Knit 3 rows.

Switch to larger needles. Follow written instructions below, or body chart.
Row 1 : K4, pm, *K2, yo, K2, SSK, K2tog, K2, yo, K3, pm*, rep between **s across 20 more times, K2.
Row 2 : K2, sm, *K2, P11, sm*, rep between **s across 20 more times, K4.
Row 3 : K4, sm, *K1, yo, K2, SSK, K2tog, K2, yo, K4, sm*, rep between **s across 20 more times, K2.
Row 4 : Rep row 2.

Repeat these 4 rows for desired length. Sample shown has 16 repeats.

Knit 2 rows.

Follow written instructions below or border chart.
Row 1: K6, *K2tog, yo, K1, yo, SSK, K3*, rep between **s 33 more times, K1.
Row 2: Knit.
Row 3: K6, *K2, yo, SSK, K4*, rep between **s 33 more times, K1.

Knit 2 rows.
Cast off loosely.

Abbreviations :
K - knit, K2tog - knit 2 sts together, pm - place marker, rep - repeat, SSK - slip next two stitches, one at a time, to right needle as follows: slip the first stitch knitwise and the second stitch purlwise. Insert tip of left needle into fronts of these stitches, from left to right. Knit them together, sm - slip marker, st - stitch, yo - yarn over.
