MATERIALS:
- S. Charles Collezione Ceylon: 12 (14, 16) balls of color A, 1 ball of color B, and 1 ball of color C.
- One pair 5.0 mm (US 8) needles, OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE
- Two 5.0 mm (US 8) double-pointed needles for I-cord
- 5.0 mm (US H-8) crochet hook
- Stitch holders
- One 1½” (40 mm) button
- Yarn needle
GAUGE:
18 sts and 24 rows = 4"/10 cm in stockinette st
TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE
I-CORD:
On a double-pointed needle, cast on [or pick up] number of sts indicated in instructions. DO NOT TURN. *Slide sts to the opposite end of the needle and knit them, pulling yarn firmly behind sts; rep from * to desired length. After a few rows, you will see that you are knitting a tiny tube; give it a gentle tug now and then to adjust any loose sts. Bind off all sts, leaving approximately 12” tail for finishing.
BACK:
Using A, cast on 80 (90, 98) sts. Work in stockinette st for 1", end on RS row.
(WS) Purl for hemline. Continue in stockinette st dec 1 st each side every 1" 4 times - 72 (82, 90) sts.
Work even for 2". Inc 1 st each side of next row, then after 3" once more - 76 (86, 94) sts. Work even until piece measures 13" above hemline, end on WS row.
Shape Armhole: Bind off 6 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st each side every other row 3 times - 58 (68, 76) sts. Work even until armhole measures 7½ (8, 8½)". Bind off all stitches.
LEFT FRONT
Using A, cast on 40 (45, 49) sts. Work in stockinette st for 1", end on RS row and cast on 10 sts for center edge facing - 50 (55, 59) sts.
Next row: (WS) Purl for hemline.
Next row: (RS) K39 (44, 48), sl 1, k10.
Next row: (WS) Purl.
Continue in stockinette st working 11 sts at front edge as established, dec 1 st at side edge every 1" 4 times - 36 (41, 45) sts. Work even for 2". Beg neck shaping by working tog the 11th and 12th sts from front edge every 10th row 10 times; AT THE SAME TIME, inc 1 st at side edge on next row, then after 3" once more and when piece measures 13" above hemline, shape armholes same as Back - 29 (34, 38) sts. Work until armhole measures same as Back.
Shape Shoulder: Bind off 19 (24, 28) sts at armhole edge once. Continue on remaining 10 facing sts for 2½” or until piece reaches center Back of neck.
RIGHT FRONT:
Work as for Left Front, reversing shaping.
SLEEVES:
Using A, cast on 34 sts. Work in stockinette st for 1 ", end on RS row.
Next row: (WS) Purl for hemline. Continue in stockinette st inc 1 st each side every 1" 11 (13, 15) times - 56 (60, 64) sts. Work even until piece measures 16" above hemline.
Shape Cap: Bind off 6 sts at beg of next 2 rows.
Dec 1 st each side every other row 16 (18, 20) times.
Bind off remaining 12 sts.
FINISHNG:
Sew shoulder seams. Set in Sleeves; sew side and sleeve seams. Join neckband at center Back and sew to neck. Turn bottom hem of body and sleeves to WS along hemline and sew in place. Turn front hems along to WS along sl st and sew in place.
Using crochet hook and A, make a chain for a crochet loop on Right Front about 4½” from lower edge. Sew button opposite loop.
Using yarn needle, weave in all ends.
FLOWER:
Petals (make 6):
Using B, cast on 4 sts.
Row 1: (RS) (K1, M1) 3 times, k1 - 7 sts.
Row 2 and all WS rows: Purl.
Row 3: (K1, M1) 6 times, k1 - 13 sts.
Rows 5 and 7: Knit.
Row 9: K5, Sk2P, k5 - 11 sts.
Row 11: K4, Sk2p, k4 - 9 sts.
Row 13: K3, Sk2p, k3 - 7 sts.
Row 15: K2, Sk2p, k2 - 5 sts.
Leave sts on a holder.
Row 16: (WS) Join all 6 petals working across remaining 5 sts on each (30) sts as follows:
Using C, p4, *p2tog, p3; rep from * 3 times, end p2tog, p4 - 25 sts.
Rows 17 and 19: (RS) Knit.
Row 18: (WS) P2tog across row, end p1 - 13 sts.
Row 20: P2tog across row, end p1 - 7 sts. Pass 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th sts over 1st st. Fasten off last st.
Stem: Using A and double-pointed needles, cast on 3 sts. Work I-cord for desired length. Fasten off.
Leaf: Using A and straight needles, cast on 5 sts.
Row 1: (RS) K2, yo, k1, yo, k2 - 7 sts.
Rows 2, 4 and 6: Purl.
Row 3: Ssk, k3, k2tog - 5 sts.
Row 5: Ssk, k1, k2tog - 3 sts.
Row 7: Sk2P - 1 st. Fasten off.
Sew flower, stem and leaf to Left Front as pictured.
