ALPACA LEGGERO JACKET

SIZES:
Small (Medium, Large)

MEASUREMENTS:
Finished bust 32.75 (36, 39.25)"
Finished length 22.75 (23.25, 23.5)"

MATERIALS:
- 13 (14, 15) balls of Schulana Alpaca Leggero in the main color
- 3 balls of Schulana Alpaca Leggero in a contrasting color
- 8.00 mm (US 11) straight needles
- 10.00 mm (US 15) straight needles
- 12.00 mm (US 17) straight needles
- 8.00 mm (L-11) crochet hook.
- 1 decorative fastener - the deco needle pictured is from Jim Knopf, available via Schulana Schuler & Co.

GAUGE:
9.5 stitches and 16 rows in 4 inches using 8.00mm (US 11) and 12.00mm (US 17) needles in Pattern Stitch II.

Pattern Stitch I:
Using 8.00 (US 11) needles with 1 strand each CC and MC
Garter stitch - K all rows.

Pattern Stitch II:
Using 8.00 mm (US 11) and 12.00mm (US 17) needles with 1 strand MC
Horizontal ribs:
1st row (right side) - 4th row (wrong side): K with 8.00 mm (US 11) needles (= 2 ribs).
5th row (right side): K with 12.00mm (US 17) needle.
6th row (wrong side): P with 8.00 mm (US 11) needle.
Rep rows 1-6 for patt.

Pattern Stitch III:
Using 10.00 mm (US 15) needles with 1 strand each CC and MC
Garter stitch - K all rows.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Back and fronts
Work parts in one piece to armholes. Cast on 78 (86, 94) sts with 8.00 mm (US 11) needles and 1 strand each MC and CC. Work 4 rows in patt I (= 3 ribs). Cont with 1 strand MC in patt II, on either side place a marker for "side seams" within 20 (22, 24) sts.

Neck
When work measures 8" bind off 3 sts on either side once. Then dec 1st on every 8th row 2 (3, 4) times within edge st. At the same time, when work measures 14.75" divide work for armholes, cont first for right front: on right side of work cont to 1st marker. Turn and bind off 2 sts once. Then bind off at armhole edge 1st on every other row 3 times.

Shoulder
When armhole measures 8 (8.25, 8.75)" bind off rem 10 (11, 12) sts loosely.

Back
Cont over foll 38 (42, 46) sts. For armholes bind off on either side on every alt row 2 sts once and 1 st 3 times. 28 (32, 36) sts.
Bind off these sts loosely at the same height as for front, marking the 8 (10, 12) center sts for neck.

Left front
Over rem sts work in reverse to right front.

Sleeves
Cast on 28 (30, 32) sts using 8.00 mm (US 11) needles with 1 strand each MC and CC. Work 4 rows in patt I, then cont in patt II with 1 strand MC. When work measures 7.25" inc 1 st on either side, rep these inc once after 4.75". 32 (34, 36) sts.

Sleeve top
When work measures 17" bind off on either side on every other row 2 sts once, 1 st twice, then 1 st on every 4th row 3 times and again on every other row 1 st twice, 2 sts once. Bind off rem 10 (12, 14) sts loosely.

Collar
Cast on 3 sts using 10.00 mm (US 15) needles with 1 strand each MC and CC for right side of collar. Cont in patt Ill, at the right edge work edge st in place of knotted edge, within edge sts inc 1 st on every other row 16 times. At the same time, from beginning K at left edge the edge st on right side and wrong side and inc 1st on every 8th row 2 (3, 4) times [21(22, 23) sts] at the end all inc. When work measures 8" from beginning dec at right edge 1 st alt on every 4th and other row 8 times (= K tog sts 2+3). Over rem 13 (14, 15) sts cont straight. When work measures 14.75 (15.25, 15.5)" (measured without stretching!) place a marker at left edge and work another 2.75 (3.25, 3.5)" straight, slip sts on a spare needle. Work left side of collar in reverse.

Finishing
Join shoulder and sleeve seams, on sleeves leave approx. 6" from beginning open. Swiss darn the free collar sts. Take collar to neck edge, markers on shoulder seams, along neck back gather collar strongly (without stretching neck edge). Sew collar with MC yarn as flat as possible to cardigan = using back sts. Sew sleeves in position. Along front edges of cardigan from cast-on to collar crochet 1 row sc (1 strand each MC and CC). Crochet as well along front sleeve edges incl. slits. Join cardigan with deco needle.
